The inaugural artsCape at Cape Byron in 2005 was Byron Bay’s first outdoor sculpture exhibition, officially opened by Andrew Denton and highly acclaimed both locally and nationally.
Over 55 artworks were exhibited around Cape Byron lighthouse and its spectacular surrounds, environmentally themed and reinforcing the Cape's unique identity and sense of place. artsCape’s innovative artworks and environmental theme set it apart from other exhibitions and made a significant impression on the Australian art scene.
To accurately reflect the identity of an area as unique as Byron Bay through public sculpture is no mean feat. The works at artsCape 2005 reflected the ethos of the area.
